People face debt problems for a variety of reasons, but they are often due to a change in circumstances: redundancy, breakdown in relationship, illness or because they have been living for some time on a very low income.
 
Being in debt can turn your life upside down. It is difficult to cope emotionally and practically when a court summons arrives, goods are repossessed or the people you owe money to start phoning you at home. Debt is a stigma. It can lead to shame, guilt, loneliness and a feeling of constant stress.

  • NON-JUDGEMENTAL - we will not pass judgement on the reasons you got into debt. Our purpose is to stand with you and help you cope with the situation and eventually for you to take over responsibility.
  • COMPETENT - all advisers have been trained to deal quickly and efficiently with debt and creditors.
  • RESPECTFUL - of your right to make your own decisions.
  • ADVICE - independent and impartial.
 

HOW IT HELPED ME

I met with one of the New Hope debt counsellors who went through my financial situation with me. As a single mother of 3, money is very tight and every day is a struggle trying to juggle money to pay bills etc.

Just having someone there to turn to and listen was a great support. But not just that, the advice I was given has helped me to manage my money and I am now financially better off than before.
